Overview – TRH Dispersing Emulsifier

The TRH Batch High-Shear Dispersing Emulsifier is a high-efficiency mixing system designed for medium-to-high viscosity and multiphase materials. Driven by a high-speed motor, its precision-engineered stator-rotor geometry generates extreme tip speeds and kinetic energy, drawing materials into the shear zone for intense mechanical tearing, centrifugal extrusion, and liquid-layer friction. It rapidly homogenizes, disperses, and emulsifies immiscible solid-liquid and liquid-liquid phases in a fraction of the time, delivering consistent performance for fine chemicals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food processing.

Key Features & Advantages

  • High-Shear Force & Fine Particle Size: The tight stator-rotor clearance and elevated tangential speeds create powerful mechanical and hydraulic shear, reducing particle sizes to the micron range to enhance emulsion stability and suspension uniformity.
  • Efficient Batch Processing: Engineered for batch operations, the unit drives strong macroscopic turnover throughout the vessel, eliminating dead zones and drastically cutting batch cycle times.
  • Versatile Stator Options: Features interchangeable stator heads—including slotted, round-hole, and mesh designs—tailored to specific process demands like rapid dissolving, high-viscosity dispersion, or ultra-fine emulsification.
  • Sanitary & Durable Build: All wetted parts are crafted from premium 304 or 316L stainless steel with high-polish surfaces, offering excellent corrosion resistance, zero residue buildup, and full compliance with sanitary standards.
  • Flexible Customization: Easily configured with electric or hydraulic lifting stands, explosion-proof motors, variable frequency drives (VFD), and compatibility with vacuum or pressure reaction vessels to fit various production scales.

Operating Principles

TRH High-Shear Dispersing Homogenizer Working Principles

  1. Axial Suction: The high-speed rotation of the rotor generates a powerful axial suction force, forcefully drawing material from the bottom into the stator-rotor shear zone simultaneously from both above and below.
  2. Internal Recirculation: Material enters the narrow gap between the stator and rotor, experiencing intense mechanical tearing and liquid-layer friction at extremely high linear velocities.
  3. High-Shear Dispersion: Material is ejected at high speed through the stator mesh/slits, instantly breaking down large particles and agglomerates.
  4. Homogenized Outflow: The refined material is ejected radially at high speed in all directions, creating a strong macroscopic circulation and tumbling throughout the container, achieving uniform mixing and emulsification without dead zones.

Installation method

Style of TRH Intermittent:Bottom-Mounted High-Shear Dispersing Homogenizer

➊ Single Top-Mounted High Shear Homogenizer (Standard Top-Mounted)

Design Features: A single high-shear emulsifying head is vertically mounted through the center of the tank cover.

Flow Pattern:

  • As the rotor spins at high speeds, it generates strong negative pressure, drawing liquid simultaneously from both top and bottom into the shearing head.
  • After intense shearing, the material is discharged radially (horizontally) toward the tank walls, forming symmetrical upper and lower circulation loops.

Best For: Rapid dispersion, dissolution, and emulsification of low-to-medium viscosity liquids.

➋ Dual-Shaft Combination (High Shear Homogenizer + Auxiliary Agitator/Anchor/Paddle)

Design Features: Two independent motors are installed on top—one drives the high-shear homogenizer, and the other drives a slow-speed agitator (e.g., anchor, frame, or helical blade).

Flow Pattern:

  • The homogenizer head provides intensive local micro-shearing.
  • The auxiliary stirrer provides macro-mixing and axial movement, pushing materials from dead zones or outer walls toward the high-shear head.

Best For: Medium-to-high viscosity fluids or large-capacity vessels where a single high-shear head cannot move the entire batch.

➌ Propeller / Paddle Agitator (Macro-Mixing Only)

Design Features: A single-shaft propeller or anchor/paddle mixer (without a stator-rotor high-shear structure).

Flow Pattern:

  • The impeller pushes the liquid downward toward the tank bottom, forcing it to roll upward along the sidewalls to form a large top-to-bottom circulation flow.

Best For: Blending, suspension, preventing sedimentation, or dissolving, but does not provide fine particle reduction or micro-emulsification.

➍ Combination System (Top Agitator + Inclined Bottom-Mounted Homogenizer)

Design Features: A standard mixing paddle is installed at the top, combined with an inclined bottom-mounted high-shear homogenizer at the bottom of the tank.

Flow Pattern:

  • The top agitator pushes upper-layer liquid downward.
  • The bottom homogenizer sucks heavy sediments directly from the bottom, subjects them to high-shear dispersion, and propels them upward at an angle.

Best For:

  • Heavy powders or fast-settling solids (prevents unmixed solids from accumulating at the tank bottom).
  • High-viscosity creams, gels, and pastes (leverage gravity feeding and superior bottom mechanical sealing).

Selection Recommendation

  • High fineness + Low viscosity Choose

  • High fineness + High viscosity / Large volume  Choose

  • Macro-blending & suspension (no emulsification needed)  Choose

  • Fast-settling powders / Highly viscous pastes / Limited overhead headroom  Choose
